Church of St James,
Parish church of Medjugorje
This summer, 5-12th June 2019, we'll be having a parish pilgrimage to Medjugorje in Bosnia.
Our pilgrimage is being organised by Marian Pilgrimages and you can see details and book directly with them by clicking here
The website indicates an expected itinerary, which would include locations like Apparition Hill and the Hill of the Cross.
The pilgrimage will last 7 nights, cost £569, and depart from Gatwick.
We'll be joining up with the parish of St Joseph in Poole.
Hill of the Cross
Medjugorje is the site of alleged apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
The reported apparitions have been occurring since 1981 and an estimated 30 million people have visited the small town since then.
Our parish priest, Fr Dylan, has been here 4 times on pilgrimage and is among the millions who testify to how Medjugorje has impacted their lives.
Video of Mirjana, one of the visionaries, during one of her monthly visits from Our Lady
The visions are of a woman announcing herself as the Queen of Peace.
The message of the visions is a call to conversion, for a world that has forgotten God to come back to Him, and for those who already know Him to follow Him more deeply. There are 5 keys points: prayer, fasting, reading the Bible, confession and the Eucharist. See here.
While the Church has not yet pronounced on the authenticity of the alleged apparitions, the place was recently approved for parish pilgrimages by Archbishop Hoser, the new apostolic visitor appointed by the Pope. See here.
